Nicointroductions, made by someone who reads the room

Privacy

This is what I hold about you, why I am allowed to hold it, and how to make it stop.

[Placeholder — to be completed before launch] The formal controller entity, its registered address and the governing jurisdiction are not settled yet, so they are not stated here rather than invented. Nothing else on this page is a placeholder. The rest describes how the system behaves today.

Why I am allowed to email you

The basis is your consent. I have your address because you ticked a box saying I could write to you, and then clicked a link in a confirmation email to show the address was yours. Both are recorded: the exact wording you were shown, and when you agreed to it.

Until that second step, you are pending. I do not introduce a pending person to anyone, and I do not describe them to anyone.

What I store

Only what I need to make an introduction that is worth someone’s time.

What I remember, and what I will repeat

I keep two kinds of thing apart. There is what you said, in your words. And there is what I observed or inferred — that a certain kind of introduction tends to land with you, that another kind does not.

Only the first kind is ever quoted back to you or passed to anyone else. What I inferred shapes what I propose to you, and stays with me. I will not repeat a guess as though you had said it.

Who I will describe to someone else

Only people who have confirmed their own email. Someone who has not confirmed is never proposed as a match, never described to anyone, and never contacted.

Deleting

Every email I send carries a delete link. Opening it shows you what deleting does; pressing the button is what does it. It removes your profile, what I remember about you, and the record of how you answered.

Two things survive, and I would rather say so than let you find out later. Your address is kept as a one-way hash, which cannot be turned back into an address and exists so that nobody can add you again. And the consent record stays, because it is the proof of what you agreed to and when — without it I could not show why I ever wrote to you.

Deleting is not reversible. If you come back later, you start again from the beginning.

Pausing

If you want the introductions to stop but do not want to leave, every email carries a pause link too. Pausing stops me proposing anything for as long as you set. Your profile stays as it is, and you can pause again when the time you set runs out.

Who else touches this

Email is sent through Resend, which handles delivery. To do that they process the message and the address it is going to.

Asking me anything about this

Write to hello@nico.build. Ask what I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it, and I will.
